Common sizes save you money
If you want a custom smaller size, the printer charges you the higher price for the larger common size. Plus they charge you to trim the sheets down to the custom size you asked for. So you’re paying more. It’s always better to go with a standard size for maximum savings. Standard sizes for brochures/flyers are: 8.5 x 11 8.5 x 14 11 x 17 17 x 22 9 x 16
Text weight same as inside pages
Uncoated Stock 70LB Bond This paper is typically only used for letterhead. It has no coating so it absorbs ink slightly dulling the image quality. 80LB text or also considered 80LB bookGreat for brochure use this paper comes from the factory with a coating to keep ink from absorbing into the paper. This greatly increases the vibrancy of colors and reduces damage from moisture when used a brochure or catalog sheet. 100LB text also called 100LB bookThe most common brochure paper weight because it stands up straight in the rack if folded as a 1/2 or try fold. It has everything the 80LB text has but just a better feel and thicker pair.
Cover weight same as usually used for the cover of catalogs
80LB gloss cover Cover stocks are not typically used for brochures. This is a thick paper stock that instead of being folded it must be scored first. A common old fashion business card was almost always printed on 80LB cover. Overkill for a common brochure or flyer but great for the cover of a catalog as it has a factory gloss coating to keep ink from absorbing into the paper. This greatly increases the vibrancy of colors and reduces damage from moisture sheet. 100LB Gloss cover Everything the 80LB gloss cover has but just thicker.
Choosing the correct print process
Almost all brochures now days are printed in full color CMYK. If you require spot color PMS "Pantone Match System" you will need to call to discuss as not all colors can be reproduced using CMYK.
Coating options
Gloss AqueousAqueous coatings make your colors come to life while protecting from smearing, fading and adding a professional feel to your printing. You can write on this coating. Dull/Matte Silk AqueousThis finish is unlike the typical uncoated stock used for business cards were the finish is rough and textured. Once cards are printed on a coated stock we apply a dull/matte coating to the entire surface to give it a silky smooth finish. You can write on this coating. UV lamination FinishOften referred to as Lamination, this coating adds thickness to the feel of your card. It will protect your card from fading, smearing and to some degree damage from liquids. Not suited for writing on. Spot UV + Matte/Dull FinishOur most expensive but most impressive print process. Extremely high contrast can be achieved by using a dull/matte finish and then applying a spot UV lamination only to images or text you want noticed. The end result looks as if the UV portion was cut out of thick plastic and placed down over a dull finish.
